We know that there are many little things that you like to do to maintain your PC.

Tha's why we have placesd some helpful hints to help you keep you machine working as it should.

Always Defrag and use disk clean up.

The windows operating system has some tools to help youu keep you machine working as fast as it can.

  1. Defrag: In Accessories-system tools you find Disk Defragmenter. This replaces the files to their right place and should speed up your machine.
  2. Disk clean up: In Accessories-system tools you find Disk clean-up. This cleans up and deletes all old files and should leave you with a little more disk space.

Both these operations should make you machine keep working to its best and should be done about every six to eight weeks.

Always use anti-virus software.
Always use good Anti-virus software. Pc World estimate that a third of PC's they scan have a Virus. If you can't afford Norton or Macafee why not try AVG who have a free version for home users click here to fine out more from AVG.

Always use anti spyware software to if you anti-virus software doesn't scan for it. Spyware can tell others what you view on the internet. Most big name anti-virus packages like Norton have anti-spyware built in but again it yours doesn't you can download free anti-spyware software with the google pack from google or AVG.
Always Turn your machine off from the mains.
Modern main board called ATX boards continue to draw a small amount of power from the main supply when they have shut down. This can over time have an effect on the main board and its BIOS system. It also makes a contribution to CO2 emissions into the environment
Never take the back off a computer.
Never take the back off a Computer unless you know what you are doing. Static can damage the parts of a PC so a good technician will wear an anti-static band on his wrist. There is electricity in there to and high voltage components which can be very dangerous.
Always back-up data.

Always back-up important data to a rewritable media like a dvd or zip disk. In windows XP Professional back-up can be found in the system tools section from accessories in the programs menu from start. In XP Home Edition you may have to enable it from the XP disk that came with your machine. If you cant find it there are many good back-up programs free on the internet or with cds from computer magazines.

 Browers are an important and necessary to view the Internet; but browers are also a way for viruses to access your computer. Older versions of Internet Explore may let these viruses in if they have not been updated regularly. New versions of Internet Explorer and other browers have things like Phishing Filters and other security features.
